We’re having a friends and family scrimmage on the 22nd and I get to play! I’m so excited to play with our wave 3 skaters!
Oh Redd has done it again! This is the path to success in derby, it really is. Have a read and take it on board!
We have forty million reasons for failure, but not a single excuse
I love this quote, and I don’t class losing a game as failure or just not being able to quite get that new drill even when giving it 100% Failure is when you don’t give it that 100%…
Thank you.
I’m so happy to say tonight’s practice felt more productive than I thought it would. I threw up a few times in the bathroom, but hey. Whatever. I’m still one happy camper! :D
I don’t know how many of you know about this, but this is awesome! I completely plan to do this, no doubt haha.
Okay, this seems like such a cool deal! I’m going to sign up for 6 months.
Does anyone else have these toe stops? I actually like them, but not in a “they’re better than Gumballs” way. They’re smaller and feel softer than the Gumballs do, and I’m not sure if they’ll last like others. Just in case anyone was wondering. :)

I hear people all the time in training sessions saying they are rubbish at this, or they can’t do that, they hate this drill because they’re not very good at it… I used to say that too. Now I say “I’m going to do x”, “I will work on x”, “I’m practicing x”.
Because, in the words of italkderby: Being rubbish at something only means that all you can do is get better.
Never a truer thing said.
Every once in a while I need a reminder.
so my local roller derby is starting “fresh meat” orientation of 2012 on tuesday and i really want to go! but i don’t want to go alone kind of. :/ i really want to see if i would like it though!
Go for it! I started roller derby alone, and I’m glad I did. It was scary, intimidating, and a million other things but it was fine. After a week I was completely comfortable with the rest of the ladies in the league.
Just give it a try. :)

- After 22 years of not being active, I’m playing a sport that requires a lot of physical work. Not only that, but I’m happy to do it!
- I have a fan page with 121 fans. Really! I can’t believe it myself.
- It took me a year, two boot camps, and three skills testing sessions to pass the WFTDA skills assessment. August 14th was that day I finally made it.
- I’ve regained control of my anxiety, OCPD, and agoraphobia. I couldn’t have done it without roller derby.
- I’m extremely passionate about recruiting and I’m the head of our league’s recruitment committee.
- There are two kinds of roller derby I want to play: banked track and renegade.
- I can’t mohawk to save my life and it’s frustrates me to no end.
- I’m a Huron River Roller and I couldn’t be more proud. The team is full of talented, supportive, fun girls. I’m lucky to be a part of it.
- I set up my first recruitment event! It was on December 9th and it was totally successful. (If you don’t think that’s a big deal, whatevs. It totally is!)
- If I couldn’t play anymore, I’d rather hang up my skates and NSO than ref. As awesome as our refs are, I have a soft spot for all of our NSOs. I joined them while I was injured and couldn’t play and fell in love with them and the work.
- It’s okay to be touchy-feely in derby and I love it.
- Jamming is cool and I enjoy trying it out at practice, but I love blocking.
- Goal: Sometime in the future I’d like to captain a team. I think once my skill level is higher and I have more bouting experience I’d be perfect for it.
- Goal: I’d like to play for our travel team. Not yet, and probably not for a good while, but I’d love to play other leagues and play with girls from our other home team.
- I want to play for TXRD. I just want the experience. Watching them helped make me fall in love with roller derby, and I think I’d enjoy their style of play.
- I’m all for renegade derby. The fights, the lack of rules. It’s exhilirating! I’d love to play with a league like the Psycho 78s.
- I love my roller skates! Riedell Vixens with Sure Grip Fugitives and Sugars. Oh, and my Gumball toe stops! They’re a dream.
- I’m in love with my new Triple 8 knee pads.
- I’m hoping to work at a skate shop someday in the near future. My entire life revolves around roller derby so why not try to get work that revolves around it, too?!
- I was ‘meh’ about choosing my derby name. Nothing really stuck out to me, but people calling me Chase is a-okay in my book.
- My dad loves that I play roller derby. I’m his little rebellious one, so joining roller derby was fitting.
- It means a lot when my sister wants to wear shirts with my name and number on them. She has two league shirts and my team fan shirt.
- I’ll be hanging any and all posters people make for me up in my room. I’m a dork like that.
- I collect pins for derby teams/leagues. I spray painted an old cork board and hung it in my room to put my pins on.
- Derby = life.
